Toys

Here at AutismZoom we are dedicated to bringing you affordable and very useful products to use with your child on the Autism spectrum.

My Name is Kate Wilde and I have been a Teacher at The Autism Treatment Center of America™ using The Son-Rise Program® for 17 years. I have worked with well over a thousand children and adults challenged by Autism, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD), Asperger's Syndrome, and other developmental difficulties. While searching over the years for toys for children with Autism, I have been struck by the fact that most websites selling toys for Autism are filled with either baby toys or electronic toys that will"entertain" and encourage our children to play by themselves. You will find none of those here, each toy listed here will be useful to help our children to look at you more, talk to you more, and physically and verbally interact with you.

Here at AutismZoom I have put together a collection of toys that I believe are great and useful for you to use while working with your child. Each toy has been selected using the following criteria:

1. They are durable, our children often play with things differently than the way they were intended to be used. All these toys have stood the test of time with our children and will not easy fall apart, being of good solid quality.

2. They are not more exciting that we are! We want toys that do not have great appeal without the aid of US. Most toys on the market today are designed to keep children busy so that we can have a cup of tea and time to ourselves. However, we want the opposite for our children, we want a toy that can be an effective tool to help our children interact with us.

These toys have been hand picked to help and encourage a child to engage socially with another adult, versus playing by themselves. Thus you will see that none of the toys are electronic, nor do they have distracting neon patterns on them.
